Summer Fun in the University Neighborhood

Summer is officially here and we’ve compiled library events, classes & recreation opportunities available right in our neighborhood (or really close!). Get ready to click and see all that is offered this summer.

 

The Morningside Cultural Trails (MCT) network includes over 7 miles of walking trails on Syracuse’s Eastside, each with its own distinctive experience. Programs and events are offered throughout the year and maps are available on their website. They love to have volunteers help maintain the trails!

Fitness & Wellness Classes including our own Dale Aver’s class at Thornden Park and summer yoga classes by the Lily Pond held on weekday evenings and weekend mornings. A perfect excuse to get to the park and maybe work in a dip in the pool.

Long Course Lap Swim: Monday through Friday: 6:30 to 8: 45 am $3.00 or 1 coupon per visit
Lesson Hours:   Monday through Friday 1/2 hour assigned between 9:00 am and 11:30 am
Public Swim Hours:  Monday through Saturday – Noon to 7:00 pm and Sunday – 1:00 to 7:00 pm Schedule updates in case of repair or other closings.

Youth Recreation offers plenty of thing to do this summer including Mobile Recreation. Thursdays at Thornden, 10:30 – 11:45 am and Barry Park, Fridays 2-3:15pm

Don’t miss the Aquathon on July 15th, geared to kids 5-14 with volunteers from the community. More details here.

OCPL (Onondaga County Public Library) has planned an amazing summer as well for readers of all ages. Tons of programs, events, entertainment is being offered. Here in the neighborhood we are fortunate to have Petit Branch Library. Events are listed here. Drop in crafts, weekend concerts and weekly chess are just a few of the great things offered…not to mention the books, games, movies, reference material and magazines available in print and electronically.

Breakfast and lunch available M-F for all kids 18 and under through the SCSD Summer Food Service Program. Many sites in and around the neighborhood, including Ed Smith @ Levy, Nottingham HS & Barry Park.

Westcott Community Center is a neighborhood treasure! Programs for all ages, including a senior lunch program, are available all year-round. Talk to A Lawyer, check out the Farmers Market Wednesdays, 2-6pm and stop by to pick up some Soul Food Fridays in July!
